As a fan of “Cribs,” MTV’s chronicle of lifestyles of the gluttonous and varying-degrees-of-famous,Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green(notes) jumped at the chance to have his luxury condo documented on video — even if he chose not to indulge in the show’s legendary clichés.

Did he stock the fridge with bottles of Cristal? “No, no … I was myself,” he said.

Ah, but what about the ultimate accoutrement for young, male stars on the show through the years: The household stripper pole?

“Well, that was already in the plans long before ‘Cribs,’” he said, deadpan.

In the words of Alex Ovechkin, “It’s good to be Ovie.”

But as I found out Saturday, it’s also good to be Mike Green.

As we mentioned here last week, Green’s condo and recently acquired 2006 pearl-white Lamborghini Gallardo will be featured on MTV’s “Cribs” in an upcoming episode. The filming was done by a seven-person crew over the course of about five hours, and I got to watch them in action thanks to an invitation from Green and his business manager, Sherif Abdalla.

Too much time has passed since Scott Niedermayer mentored a teen Mike Green.

Exchanging pleasantries and small talk is about all the veteran feels he can offer the Norris Trophy finalist now, almost a decade since a mutual friend helped set up a meeting between the two at Niedermayer’s summer home in B.C.

At the time, Green was a junior prospect moulding himself after the smooth-skating NHL veteran.

Now, they’re both skating at Team Canada’s Olympic orientation camp.

“There’s obviously a lot of water under the bridge since then, and he’s got things figured out pretty good,” Niedermayer said with a laugh yesterday at the Saddledome.

“I might be learning things from him now.”
